, Our data principles
Who we are
Carabain Digital (trading as “Vocabli”; “we”, “us”) is a Dutch company registered at Zuidlaarderbrink 292, 7812 GL Emmen, with company number KVK 98100483 and VAT number NL005309444B90. We operate vocabli.app and the Vocabli apps for iOS, Android and the web.
Vocabli is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. Reach our Data Protection Officer at [email protected].
What we collect
We collect only what we need to make the product work, plus a small amount of anonymised information to improve it.
Account information
- Your email address and a hashed password, for sign-in.
- A display name if you choose to set one.
- Your chosen learning language and proficiency level.
Learning data
- The lessons you open and how far through each one you get.
- The words and phrases you save to your deck, and your spaced-repetition review history.
Voice recordings
When you use the Speech feature we record short audio clips of you speaking. Recordings live on Cloudflare R2 servers in the European Union and are tied to your account, so only you can listen back. We keep them for as long as your account stays active, close the account and they are deleted with the rest of your data.
How we use it
- Teach you the language
- Learning data feeds the spaced-repetition algorithm and the AI tutor (once available).
- Power the Speech feature
- Voice recordings drive the pronunciation feedback in the Speech feature and let you replay yourself to hear progress. They are never used to identify you or shared for marketing.
- Keep your account safe
- Technical data helps detect unusual sign-ins and rate-limit abuse.
- Improve the product
- Aggregated, anonymised usage data tells us which lessons land. Individual records are never reviewed without your written request.
- Communicate with you
- We send a weekly study summary if you opt in. You can unsubscribe with one click.
Service providers
A small number of trusted service providers help us run Vocabli. Each one processes data on our behalf under a written agreement and only for the purposes we instruct.
- Cloudflare R2
- Object storage for your voice recordings. Buckets are pinned to the European Union region, recordings do not leave the EU.
- Stripe
- Payment processing for Vocabli Premium subscriptions. Stripe receives the minimum information needed to take payment and never touches your learning or voice data.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and the UK Data Protection Act you have a number of rights over your data. We honour all of them.
- Access
- Download a complete copy of your data from Settings → Privacy → Export.
- Correction
- Edit your account directly in Settings.
- Deletion
- Delete your account from Settings → Privacy → Delete account. All data, including any voice recordings, is removed within 30 days.
- Portability
- Your deck is exportable as CSV, Anki .apkg, or JSON.
- Complaint
- Lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or your local supervisory body.
